Hunter vs. Anti-hunters

This week I am going to discuss the ever popular issue of animal rights. There are several animals rights organizations such as, PETA, the Humane Society, and a group called Compassion over Killing. There are several key things that these organizations fail to recognize. If you hunt you know that hunting is not all about killing animals. Most of the Conservationists in the U.S. are hunters and they are the ones who really understand conservation. Conservation does not mean that you cannot kill anything. There are many laws that are in place to prevent over hunting and fishing, there are just a few individuals who give the rest of us hunters a bad name. Another thing that anti-hunters don't realize is that many harvested deer are donated to organizations that help feed the the hungry. If you take hunting away it's like taking away peoples food. Now there are some people who support hunting as long as the meat is eaten. There are others who will not support hunting no mater what. I've heard of people who say "Don't kill innocent animals. Buy your meat from the store where nothing has been killed" If they honestly believe that then the are crazy. I will discuss more of this later but this is getting long.

  1. A passionate post, and well-supported with logic.

    A few suggestions for improvement:
Could you link us to PETA, the Humane Society, and Compassion over Killing so we can see for ourselves their message about hunting? I think you lose a bit with the last two lines--you alienate the opposition and let us down just when we're getting passionate about the subject.

  2. Ben, I really enjoyed your article. I am one of the few people that are oddly indifferent about this topic. I believe that as long as you are killing whatever game you are hunting quickly and efficiently, then there is nothing wrong. Is it difficult to steady your shot, knowing that pulling the trigger will end another's life?

  3. Ben, that was a great blog. I agree with you on everything. Another huge part about why we need hunters is to keep the deer population down. If there is no one harvesting deer then there will be more and more automotive accidents. This could cause the number of serious injuries and deaths to sky rocket. I'm glad to know that you have a great respect for the wild life too.
